So Much Depends on Equus Skates

Asphalt sun-baked, 

the white line stark. 

By the paddock, 

hooves strangely spark.

Champion chestnut, 

skates so bright. 

Wheels whirl and spin –

this race day light.

Grooms mutter low, 

bettors frown deep. 

But wheels carve out joy 

where rules should sleep.
