So Much Depends on Equus Skates by Mechelle Gilford and Sir Bard circa 2024
This year, I am also teaching Equine Art part-time. Here is a demo for an equine art & poetry lesson inspired by poet William Carlos Williams. I call it “The So Much Depends Prompt.”
So Much Depends on Equus Skates
Asphalt sun-baked,
the white line stark.
By the paddock,
hooves strangely spark.
Champion chestnut,
skates so bright.
Wheels whirl and spin –
this race day light.
Grooms mutter low,
bettors frown deep.
But wheels carve out joy
where rules should sleep.
So much depends on
skates well-worn,
a sweet rebellion
before crowds are born.
