Creating an Equitable Environment

Personal Objective:

As I’ve been going through the weeks and decided on the best activity/reading/visual component to showcase, I feel like this course and any versions of it could go on forever. I’ve also learned how quickly a semester can fly by so I’ve tailored the course to have leeway/overlap if needed. There will also be an explication of the first class and course requirements so that other educators can understand and adapt the pedagogy to their own practices. The only way to create an equitable environment beyond the classroom is to enable students to name, challenge, reconceptualize, and become agents of change. The objective of this course is to provide a context of race, gender, and sexuality as non-normative constructions of identity and allow my students to construct their own mental representations of these topics.
