Congratulations and welcome to the CUNY Leadership Fellows for 2017!
For the third year, exemplary students, with support from the Teagle Foundation, have been chosen from throughout CUNY’s twenty-four two and four-year colleges, over 500.000 full and part-time students. The Leadership Fellows exemplify a new model of leadership, one that is dedicated to the larger goals of community and working towards a better, more equitable and just society. By mentoring fellow students, hosting events, and communicating about their work and that of others across the vast network of CUNY colleges, these extraordinary students exemplify the deepest goals of higher education and CUNY as a public good.
Director Lauren Melendez once again guided the process. She was joined by Futures Initiative Fellows and Co-Directors Mike Rifino and Kashema Hutchinson, and supported by Futures Initiative Postdoctoral Fellow and Interim associate director, Frances Tran.
Students were nominated by our Futures Initiative faculty and graduate students teaching across all of CUNY. The undergraduates themselves then applied and were selected through a rigorous competitive process. All Fellows attended a one-day Leadership Institute. Soon we will be posting additional information about the day and thanks to all of the speakers and invited guests who made the day a success.
You will be able to find out more about the CUNY Leadership Fellows and follow their work on their website: http://futuresinitiative.org/mentors/
Once again, CONGRATULATIONS and best wishes for a successful, inspiring academic year!
